Sara Vig grew up in Southwest Missouri and was awarded the President’s Scholarship from Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University) as well as a Bright Flight Scholarship. She graduated MSU cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She was awarded the Lincoln-Harno Scholarship for the University of Illinois, College of Law. She wrote onto Law Review and served as an editor for that publication. She graduated from U of I, College of Law, cum laude.
Sara’s entire practice has been spent in private practice and she owned and operated her own firm, Law Offices of Sara M. Mayo Vig, until she and her husband, William Vig, incorporated their individual practices in July 2017. She has focused her practice on criminal defense work and appeals as much as possible. She has represented clients on drug charges, DUIs, violent crimes, sex crimes, traffic cases, and misdemeanors in Sangamon County and throughout central Illinois. In addition to her state court work, Sara has been a CJA attorney for the United States District Court of the Central District of Illinois, Springfield Division since in or around 2010. She has tried criminal cases to jury in both state and federal court. She has also served as a part-time public defender in Sangamon County from January 2012 until December 2014 while operating her private practice.
In addition to her trial work, Sara has also taken many appeals in the Fourth District of Illinois and appeals in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. At the time of this writing, she is currently preparing a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari in the United States Supreme Court. In addition to direct appeals, she has also been appointed to represent many clients in post-conviction petitions and has helped her clients in petitioning the court for mandamus relief.
It is her goal to make sure that every client served is treated as an individual and that each case is given the time and attention it deserves. Sara does not believe “one size fits all” solutions are always effective, as in her experience each client has separate needs and concerns that should be addressed as work progresses toward resolving his or her case. She looks for ways to address those special and individual needs in every case in order that the solution arrived at for any particular client is one that can help them move forward personally and professionally.
